Duane Smith is a Special Agent within the Department of Homeland Security with two decades of experience in law enforcement. A native of Washington, DC, he has seen the community transition from the volatility of the late 80’s and early 90’s to the reinvestment initiatives underway today. Duane’s interest in law enforcement developed after the murder of his brother in the late 80’s. Since then, he has sought to provide relative perspective regarding police and community relationships. Duane holds a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution with a focus on Inclusive Conflict Engagement from George Mason University’s Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution. His scholastic work includes community advocacy and awareness as it pertains to the use of force.
